We are getting closer to Winter Canola harvest. Please keep close look over your fields for any insects or weed infestations. If you take care of your canola it will be very profitable for you. We will also be handling sunflowers this fall. The contracts for sunflowers will be like our canola contract. By the acre not by the pound. You can look on our web site for more information.
The canola fields I have seen do look good.
The price continues to go up. All crops are trying to get control of acres. Where will it stops is a good question. (Check web site for prices)
We will start a series of information meetings next week. The first meeting is in Fairview, OK. Matt Gard will host the first meeting. Matt is the Board President of POP. Look at the other attachment for locations. If you don’t see one in your area call me.
We will visit about POP and Producers Cooperative Oil Mill (PCOM). We will visit about our relationship and our history.
We will discuses oilseed crop production practices also.

POP Newsletter

It’s November and most of the Winter Canola has been planted. I have visited some winter canola fields and the stand looks very good. I believe that we have the start of a good 2008 harvest. Canola has been planted from central Kansas, to Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. This will give future producers a chance to see Winter Canola growing in their area. In my next newsletter I will have a map that shows Winter Canola production areas so that new producers can watch it grow.

We did have weather problems, what’s new, dry weather and then it got too wet. Also with the price of wheat at record levels, producers went back with what was familiar to them. With canola oilseed prices at $7.50 a bushel, new crop, we can still compete favorable with wheat priced at $6.50 a bushel, new crop. Our price is posted on our web site – plainsoilseedproducts.com. We have a sample copy of the contract for forward contracting canola attached to our web site. Give Brandon Winters a call at PCOM about contracting 2008 Canola (405-232-7555).
Our web site has information about membership in POP, including copies of our By-Law and Articles of Incorporation. There is a membership application also. The site has many links to other related web sites including Producers Cooperative Oil Mill.

Producers Cooperative Oil Mill (PCOM) has started the process of upgrading the crushing facility and will be ready for the 2008 Winter Canola harvest. They have made the commitment to become the Southern Great Plains Canola processing plant. PCOM needs you to grow Winter Canola. PCOM’s web site has information about the company and also shows the price of canola for next harvest.

I need to find out how much and where the Winter Canola has been planted. When I get that information I can make sure that we have enough storage in the correct locations. Please let local elevators and seed dealers know where it is or contact me. You can e-mail me at cscneuens@yahoo.com or call my office-405-232-7555 – Cell 405-760-4205.

The Great Plains Canola Assn. (GPCA) has also become reality. We have producers and ag service companies signing up for memberships. POP will attach the membership forms to our web site. The canola producers need to have a voice in the oilseed industry and the GPCA will give them that voice. Our President, Jeff Scott, is from the Pond Creek, OK area. Our Board of directors is made up of 3 producers and 2 from the canola industry. There is a link to the United States Canola Association on our web site. When you join the GPCA, you also become a member of the USCA.

POP and PCOM look forward to working with the canola producers of the Southern Great Plains this next year.
POP will have Membership meetings in 2008. These meetings will include information about POP and how to become a member, Canola production, information about PCOM and information about the GPCA.

Remember to send information about where canola has been planted so we can be ready for the 2008 harvest year.
Watch our web site for future information.

Remember to watch your canola crop for insects and make sure you feed your crop.

Oklahoma Farmers and Ranchers Energy Enterprise, LLC (OKFREE) has formed a new company, Plains Oilseed Products, LLC. (POP) This company was needed to more define what our purpose is. This company was started with the help of Oklahoma Farmers Union. Oklahoma Farmers Union members are investing in Oklahoma agriculture. OKFREE/POP was first funded by a grant from USDA Rural Development and by contributions of time and facilities from many different companies, Universities, state agencies and individuals. POP has also received an Agriculture Enhancement Cooperative Marketing loan to continue the project.

Plains Oilseed Products’ purpose is to provide agriculture producers a new market for current and future oilseed crops. POP will be an Oklahoma owned company. Oklahoma producers will be able to be part of a value added company to enhance their profitability. This project will also add to the economic development of rural Oklahoma.
POP is just finishing an updated business plan with the help of Oklahoma State University. Dr. Phil Kenkel, Dr. Rodney Holcomb, and Dr. Nurhan Dunford have been great help on this project. We hope to have our project ready to present to Oklahoma in a short time.

POP’s process will be able to crush many different oilseed such as Canola, Sunflowers, Peanuts, Soybeans and any other oilseed that we may grow in Oklahoma.

POP’s proposed plant will use a type of mechanical extraction technology called an extruder/expeller. We will compress the oilseed to very high pressure using friction as a source of heat. The heat deactivates the enzymes destroys microorganisms that might serve as negative factor in meals. This technology provides high quality meal and oil products. By not using harsh chemicals we will produce quality oil for the human food industry. Our product will also be available for use in the bio-fuel industry. The meals will be a high quality product to enhance the feed industry.

Plains Oilseed Products, LLC is looking forward to the future of Oklahoma Agriculture. Our Board of Directors is made up of Matt Gard from Fairview, Terry Detrick, VP of OK Farmers Union, Mark Holder from Altus, Walt Grabow from Omega, Jerry Hedges from Vici, Clay Pope from Loyal, Pete McDaniel from Apache. Our Project manager is Gene Neuens and our grant administrator is Janice Yates.
